Product Specifications & Compatibility
Q: What calibers is the FRT-15L3 designed to work with?
The FRT-15L3 is specifically engineered for standard AR-15 platforms chambered in 5.56/.223 or 300 Blackout. While not its intended application, we’ve received reports of successful use in various AR-9 platforms. Due to internal differences in bolt carrier geometry and dimensions, the AR-10 platform is not currently supported.
Q: Does the FRT-15 work with all AR-15s?
The FRT-15L3 may not fit in certain Colt models or other lowers with a sear block/shelf.
Q: What is the trigger pull weight of the FRT-15L3?
The exact pull weight will be dictated by where you take the measurement on the trigger blade. The further down the trigger blade a measurement is taken, the lighter the pull weight will be.
• Semi-Automatic Mode: ~4.5–5 lbs
• FRT Mode: ~6.5–7 lbs
The pull is heavier in FRT mode because, in addition to pulling against the hammer and compressing the trigger return spring (as in Semi-Auto), the selector also engages the disconnector spring, which adds about 2 lbs of additional resistance.
Q: Can I use my own selector with the FRT-15L3?
No. The selector included with the FRT-15L3 is proprietary and must be used for the trigger to function properly. It is not compatible with standard or aftermarket 3-position selectors.
Q: Will you offer a kit to convert the original 2-position FRT-15 into a 3-position?
No. The geometry of the official FRT-15L3 trigger that we currently have in production is materially different from our first-generation FRT-15. These changes include significant internal changes to the housing itself. These changes were required to improve performance, reliability, and user experience. For that reason, it is not possible to retrofit our first-generation housing with components intended for the all-new L3. Producing a retrofit kit would inevitably require compromising the very improvements in performance, reliability, and overall user experience that we have worked hard to achieve with the L3 design.
Q: Has the FRT-15L3 undergone torture testing?
Yes. We conducted a 10,000-round torture test on the FRT-15L3 to assess durability, component wear, and operational reliability. We were very satisfied with the durability and performance metrics observed. Additionally, Regular Guy Training, LLC independently ran an FRT-15L3 through 6,000 rounds in a single month and released a comprehensive review on his YouTube channel. You can watch his review here: Rare Breed FRT-15L3 – 6,000 Round Review
Q: What makes a Forced Reset Trigger different from a standard semi-automatic trigger?
A Forced Reset Trigger uses the energy of the bolt carrier group to mechanically reset the trigger after each shot. This allows for rapid, repeated fire while maintaining semi-automatic function, as the user must still pull the trigger for each round fired.
Installation & Maintenance
Q: Should I lubricate the trigger or run it dry?
We recommend running the FRT-15L3 dry after initial factory lubrication. Excess oil can attract carbon buildup and debris. If lubrication is added, be sure to clean the trigger more frequently to maintain reliability.
Q: How often should I clean my trigger?
• Dry Operation: Every 800–1,200 rounds
• Lubricated Operation: Every 500–900 rounds
Q: Do you offer installation support or videos?
Yes. You can view our installation video here: Rare Breed Triggers FRT-15L3 – Installation.
Q: Should I use Loctite?
Yes. We recommend using blue Loctite (medium strength) on the screws for the anti-walk pins. This helps prevent the screws from backing out under normal firing conditions while still allowing for future disassembly.

Legal & Compliance
Q: Are forced-reset triggers legal?
Yes. Under current federal law, forced-reset triggers such as the FRT-15L3 are lawful to own and use. Recent litigation has reinforced this status. However, the legal landscape is evolving, and some jurisdictions are actively challenging the legality of FRTs. We encourage all customers to stay informed about ongoing developments and to seek legal counsel if needed.
Q: Is the FRT-15L3 legal in my state?
Certain states and local jurisdictions have enacted their own restrictions on forced-reset triggers. It is the responsibility of the buyer to know and comply with all applicable laws. We strongly recommend researching your state and local laws before purchasing or installing an FRT.
