FRT-15L3® (FLAT)
Single-Stage (3-Position) Forced Reset Trigger for the AR-15
Take your AR-15 to the next level with the official Rare Breed Triggers FRT-15L3® (FLAT). This drop-in, duty-grade 3-position Forced Reset Trigger (Safe/Semi/FRT®) is 100% manufactured and assembled in the USA. The FRT-15L3® (FLAT) includes a 3-position ambidextrous safety selector and anti-walk pins for a secure, hassle-free installation.
Performance on the Range
Enhance your shooting experience with the FRT-15L3® (FLAT) Forced Reset Trigger. Designed to accelerate follow-up shots while remaining within legal parameters, the innovative Forced Reset system resets the trigger after each shot, enabling faster, more consistent firing. Each trigger pull fires one round, ensuring full legal compliance while delivering improved speed and performance. Perfect for competitive shooting, tactical training, or maximizing your AR-15’s potential.
Innovative Design and Features
- 3-Position Functionality: The FRT-15L3® (FLAT) features Safe, Semi, and Forced Reset modes, controlled via a 3-position, ambidextrous safety selector. Whether you’re focused on precision shooting or rapid-fire drills, this system adapts to your needs, offering versatility for both left- and right-handed shooters.
- Effortless Installation: Designed for easy installation on Mil-Spec AR-15 lowers, the FRT-15L3® (FLAT) includes anti-walk trigger pins, providing secure attachment and preventing unwanted movement during extended use. The ambidextrous safety selector seamlessly integrates into any Mil-Spec lower receiver.
Single-Stage Trigger in Both Operating Modes
- Semi-Automatic Mode: In Semi-Automatic mode, the trigger delivers a consistent, smooth 4–4.5 lb pull weight throughout the entire length of travel, from initial pressure to the break. This single-stage design provides a predictable trigger feel that promotes precise control and extremely fast follow-up shots.
- Forced Reset (FRT®) Mode: In FRT® mode, the trigger maintains the same single-stage characteristic but with a slightly heavier 5.5–6 lb pull weight throughout the full length of travel.
Durable Construction for Long-Lasting Performance
Crafted from high-quality materials, including 7075 anodized aluminum and heat-treated 4140 steel, the FRT-15L3® (FLAT) is built to endure heavy use. This robust construction ensures reliability and longevity, allowing you to push your AR-15 to its limits with confidence.
AR-15 Compatibility
The FRT-15L3® (FLAT) is compatible with Mil-Spec AR-15 lowers and requires a full-auto-compatible bolt carrier group for proper functionality. For optimal performance, we also recommend using an H2 or H3 buffer, or alternatively, an A5 buffer system. Please note: The FRT-15L3® (FLAT) may not fit in certain Colt models or other lowers with a sear block/shelf.
Unmatched Speed and Control
The FRT-15L3® (FLAT) is ideal for shooters seeking speed and precision. By mechanically resetting the trigger after each shot, then locking the trigger from being pulled until the BCG returns to battery, this system allows for faster follow-up shots without needing advanced techniques. The forced reset mechanism ensures the trigger returns to the non-firing position after each round, requiring the shooter to pull the trigger again, offering full control over each shot.
Why Choose the FRT-15L3® (FLAT) Forced Reset Trigger?
If you’re looking to boost your AR-15’s performance, the FRT-15L3® (FLAT) Forced Reset Trigger is the ultimate upgrade. With its rapid-fire capability, secure anti-rotation design, and seamless compatibility with the AR-15 platform, this trigger provides a superior shooting experience for competition, tactical use, or range drills. Unlock the full potential of your AR-15 with the FRT-15L3® (FLAT).

Larry M. –
It’s an FRT. Of course the forced-reset function is the attraction. But that doesn’t mean anybody wants to settle for a mediocre semi-auto trigger the rest of the time. The L3 brings both functions into the same trigger, and that’s exactly where they belong. I chose the flat version because I’m a big fan of the way it feels when shooting.
Vic K. –
Flat shoe, single-stage pull, and three positions. Rare Breed nailed this one.
GF –
I found a love for flat triggers a long time ago because I like having the full face of the shoe available instead of being guided toward the center of a curve. The L3 takes that preference and pairs it with a badass FRT with two options for fire. You get that standard semi-auto and you also get that wicked forced reset mode. Semi is a high-quality, premium single-stage trigger, which matters to me because that’s where I spend plenty of my time shooting. And of course you can bet that forced reset mode is amazing if it’s coming from Rare Breed. These guys are the pioneers. The ONLY guys to stand up and fight the feds to ensure forced reset trigger were legal. The guys that build the best forced reset trigger on the market. Anyone that says different is just being a hater.
Chris –
installed the flat version of the L3 in my Daniel Defense and I’m glad I went this direction. I like being able to place my finger a little lower on the straight shoe while still getting the same single-stage pull every time. The ambidextrous selector is another feature I appreciate since the controls are accessible from either side. Being an FRT, it’s a very different trigger from what I had in the rifle before and needless to say, I’m never going back! Rare Breed for life!
Harvey –
My BCM has gone through more trigger changes than I care to admit, but the flat model of the L3 is prob gonna be staying put. The straight shoe lets me decide exactly where I want my finger on the trigger. The trigger is top notch. It’s easy to tell that RB hasn’t cut any corners. This trigger is built like a tank and it shows.
D. Young –
Never imagined I’d like having a straight trigger blade so much but I’ve gotta admit, it’s nice! The straight blade gives the trigger a very direct feel. The pull is smooth and the break is even better. I originally figured the straight trigger blade would mostly be an appearance preference, but I’ve come to appreciate it for the way the trigger operates. I cannot forget to mention the FRT mode. It’s everything you expect and a little bit more. 5 Stars!
Rob –
I’ve owned enough ARs that it takes something special to catch my attention. The FRT-15L3 did exactly that. It brought some excitement back to a rifle I’ve had for years and made me want to start shooting more often. I think it’s fair to say I’ve been a little less grumpy lately. Thank you!
Mark –
I’m a bit partial to a flat trigger, so when Rare Breed offered the C3 this way it was an easy choice. The combination of the straight trigger face and two-stage semi operation just puts a smile on my face. And having that third position certainly doesn’t hurt.
Jason –
The straight shoe is the draw here. I like the look, and the L3’s single-stage layout appeals to me. That’s pretty much my whole take.
Charles –
Yeah, the straight version of this FRT. I like a restrained look, and this one has it. It’s a small detail but one that has a big impression on me. Thank you Rare Breed!
Tyler –
Just received this today. My first FRT. Installation literally took less than 5 minutes. It absolutely rips. Performs flawlessly. High quality parts, every single piece is metal. A match made in heaven for a CMMG Banshee chambered in 5.7x28MM. I will 100 percent be buying more of these for my future builds. Wish it came with a decal. I am 1000% satisfied with this product. Highly recommended. Don’t have one, get one!!!
Cody –
I stared at the curved and flat versions for way too long before ordering. Eventually I picked the flat because simply put, it looked cooler, which may be the least sophisticated trigger-selection methodology ever devised.
Turns out my dumb luck worked pretty well. I really enjoy the straight trigger face, the single-stage semi operation is excellent, and FRT mode is everything I wanted it to be.
Sometimes the technical analysis is simple: that one looks cool. Buy that one.
Coleman –
I’m not a trigger snob. I don’t own any special measurement gauges and I’m not gonna sit here describing every thousandth of an inch of travel. That said, I can tell you whether I like something, and I really like this trigger. The flat blade feels good, semi is a pleasure to shoot, and the whole thing feels like money well spent. Then you find that third position and suddenly you’re wondering why you didn’t bring more ammo.
Ethan –
Yep, flat was the way to go. I like how this L3 feels against my finger, and semi feels good. Happy with the trigger and the way it’s made. That’s my two cents.
Scott –
The best compliment I can give the flat variant of the FRT-15L3 is that I would still like this trigger if the third position didn’t exist. The straight shoe and single-stage design make for a combination that I genuinely enjoy during normal semi-auto shooting. Of course, the third position does exist and that turns an already impressive trigger into something entirely different. Rare Breed managed to bake the sensible choice and the irresponsible choice into the same trigger.
Logan –
First flat trigger I’ve owned. Probably won’t be the last. The L3 looks mean, feels great, and has three selector positions ranging from responsible adult to poor financial decisions at the ammo counter.
Luke –
The flat shoe is what makes this L3 stand out to me. I like the way my finger sits on it. Semi feels as nice as any other premium trigger out there, and the whole thing operates like a solid, well-oiled machine. Good choice for my taste.
Kyle –
I’ve never been someone who changes parts simply because something new comes along, and I wasn’t completely sold on the idea of a flat trigger in an AR. I already have a the curved version of the FRT-15L3 and love it so I decided to give this one a chance and have been pleasantly surprised by how natural the straight trigger face feels.
The FRT capability gets most of the attention, understandably, but I think Rare Breed deserves just as much credit for producing a trigger that is enjoyable during ordinary semi-automatic shooting. And then of course, I am extremely pleased that Rare Breed is not only continuing to develop FRT’s for other platforms but also new versions of the same flagship triggers they already offer. These guys are taking taking care of business!
Hunter –
I picked the flat L3 mostly because I liked the way it looked. Not exactly a scientific decision, but it worked out. Once I got behind it, I ended up liking the feel of the straight trigger even more than the appearance. And then there’s that third position. Yeah… that’ll put a smile on your face.
Clint –
There is more to the flat version of the L3 than simply changing the shape of the trigger shoe. The straight face gives the trigger a different character under the finger, while the single-stage operation keeps the press straightforward and predictable. I also appreciate that Rare Breed offers the flat configuration without changing what makes the L3 so awesome in the first place. It feels like a legitimate design choice rather than an appearance package. Two thumbs up!
Fin –
I went back and forth between the curved and flat versions and finally settled on the flat. Glad I did. It feels natural under my finger and I really like the way my finger indexes on the flat trigger shoe. The pull and reset are both really nice. Happy with my purchase.
Joe –
I installed the flat version of the L3 in my Noveske and couldn’t be happier with the combination. I was a little hesitant to change anything on a rifle I already loved, but the flat trigger feels natural and the semi-auto pull is far better than I expected. 5 Stars!
Jared –
I specifically chose the flat L3 because I prefer a consistent contact point lower on the trigger face. It was the right decision. The single-stage pull is well defined, the flat bow gives excellent feedback, and the overall construction is more refined than I expected from an FRT. This is such a high-quality trigger and I am very happy with my decision to go with Rare Breed!
Caleb –
I couldn’t be happier with the FRT-15L3 that I’ve installed in my AR. The flat trigger shape feels natural to me. I love it, especially in semi. I really love FRT mode too because it purrrrs like a kitten. Kinda like Mickey D’s, I’m loving it!
Harrison –
I’ve spent enough money on AR parts over the years to know when I bought something worthwhile and when I just bought something shiny. The L3 is the real deal. It feels good in semi and has been a great addition to my BCM. I picked up the flat version. I really like the way that my finger feels on the flat shoe. It makes a difference in standard semi and I’m loving it. Then you roll that selector over to FRT and this dog gets off the porch in a hurry. I’m a happy man!
GQ –
Finally grabbed an L3 and now I get it. Semi is legit, everything feels solid, and that third click is straight-up trouble. I decided to go with the flat version because it just looks cool but after getting some trigger time with it, I really like it. It was a good decision.
Shane –
Flat was the right call for me. The flat trigger blade feels really nice when pulling the trigger in semi-auto. And FRT mode is so much damn fun! The quality of this trigger is top notch. Well done RB!
Andy –
I absolutely love this trigger. The FRT-15L3 is awesome and offering a version with a flat trigger blade is the cat’s pajamas! This thing runs flawlessly. The flat shoe makes it even better for my shooting style. I have always run flat triggers in my AR’s and I’m so happy RB has given me that option with their FRTs. Thank you Rare Breed!
Frankie_B –
Absolutely love this trigger. I already own two, and I’m ordering a third while writing this review. That probably says a lot right there. The flat blade is definitely the way to go on this platform. Installation is straight forward, it runs great, and FRT mode is ridiculous in all the right ways. Hell yeah! Rare Breed all the way!
Will –
I dropped this new L3 into my Radical Firearms AR and it turned out better than I expected. The straight blade feels just right, especially when you get a little lower on the trigger. I really like the flat trigger blade for taking precision shots in regular semi. With so little purchase on the blade, I feel like it’s easier to get an accurate shot. And with that 3rd position, it’s also a lot of fun. I am loving it!
ED –
Dropped this flat trigger in my rifle and man, I gotta say it fits like a glove. The flat face gives it a totally different feel and makes the whole setup look extra. Everything fits tight, feels smooth, and has that solid mechanical snap you want. No trigger slap, no roughness, no janky movement. Rare Breed definitely did well with one.
Lucas V –
My FRT-15L3 is installed in a suppressed Geissele SBR. I spent a while reading about it before finally trying one. It runs flawlessly with the suppressor installed or not installed. Semi-auto is so clean and predictable. The flat face makes finger placement easy to repeat. It is expensive, but the quality is so easy to see and feel that I feel good about the purchase. And regardless of the price tag, I feel like I made the right decision. There are many less expensive options out there but most of them are gimmicky trash. And then ones that aren’t trash don’t come close to comparing in overall quality. A Rare Breed FRT will most likely be my trigger of choice for all future builds.
Knox –
I did not buy it for looks, but the fit and finish are excellent. You can tell these guys put some love into the design. The shoe has enough surface area without feeling bulky. I have it matched with an H2 buffer, which seems to be just right for my liking. Reliability has been solid from the beginning. The normal semi-auto pull is good enough that the third position is not the only reason to like it. The break stays crisp and the return is positive. Love it so much!
Zach –
Running this in a suppressed .300 Blackout SBR and I’ve been really impressed with it. The flat trigger feels great, the reset is short and crisp, and the whole setup just feels dialed in. I’ve put plenty of rounds through it with zero issues or weird behavior. Definitely one of those upgrades that’s staying in the gun.
Quentin –
Really happy with the flat trigger. It feels great, looks sharp, and has been running perfectly in my BCM build. Everything feels solid and well made. Definitely earned a permanent spot in the rifle.
GENE L –
Triggers are pricy…but after install and using… worth it. Will be buying another, the over used term… buy once cry once … it is worth the price and ease of install
Blake –
The shoe has enough surface area without feeling bulky. This is not my first Rare Breed trigger, which gave me a pretty good idea of what to expect. My particular setup is a 16″ BCM mid-length AR-15 build with an H3 buffer. After 500 rounds, I have not had a malfunction related to the trigger. The break stays crisp and the return is positive. I am very happy with how it turned out.
John (verified owner) –
I have a 300 blackout, 100+ shots shoots like butter
JP –
I recently purchased an FRT-15L3 with a flat trigger shoe. I got it installed in about 20 minutes and then added an H2 buffer to a bone stock Ruger 556. Function in all three positions is flawless! Consistent steady pressure in FRT mode produced expedited expenditure of excessive amounts of ammunition. Very satisfied customer! Keep up the great work and thank you for fighting for our rights!
FC –
Runs flawless and super smooth, A5 H3 buffer, 10.5 barrel, JK Pro-Kor 556 suppressor.
Robert G (verified owner) –
I dropped my new FRT-15L3 into my DD MK18 with an H3 buffer and braided spring and took it to the range. This puppy worked flawlessly through 200 rounds of ammo. I was somewhat skeptical because how often does something that is supposed to be this awesome actually work? No tinkering, no adjustments, it just works! It was like a sewing machine!
Rashford –
This trigger is awesome! I have two and as a matter of fact, I’m ordering a third as I write this review. The flat blade version of the FRT-15L3 is exactly what the doctor ordered. Installs in 10 minutes and runs flawlessly. FRT mode is just ridiculous. Rare Breed for life.
Chad –
I only regret not buying the flat version sooner. Had the curved L3 for almost a year and love it. I decided to try the flat version last month and love it! Same incredible FRT mode, same outstanding build quality but I enjoy the overall trigger experience just a little bit more. I will prob only run the flat version from here on out. RBT nailed it.
Spencer –
I’ve got the flat L3 in my CMMG Banshee 9mm PCC. Required a bit of gas tuning but once I got it dialed in, it runs extremely well. Nobody does it like Rare Breed. I give them 5 stars!
VO –
Got the flat L3 on a recommendation from a buddy I work with. Installed in my 16 inch mid-length with a H2 buffer. I brought some tools just in case but it ran like a dream on my first trip to the range. I love the flat trigger shoe. The trigger pull in semi is so smooth and the break is crisp. And well, FRT is FRT. Worth every dollar.
Noah –
Butta. That’s the one word for this trigger. The flat shoe gives such a consistent press point and the break is the same every single pull. FRT mode is absolutely filthy in the best way. I was replacing a Geissele SSA-E and if I’m being honest, I was a bit worried about replacing such a high quality trigger with the unknown. I was not expecting such an amazing pull in standard semi. This trigger is 5 outta 5. It will not disappoint.
Henry –
I dropped the FRT-15L3 in my 300 Blackout SBR. Suppressed FRT mode in 300 BLK supersonic is an experience that is hard to describe — fast smooth and remarkably controllable. Rare Breed earns five stars.
Drew –
First flat trigger on an AR build and the FRT-15L3 Flat converted me completely. The consistency of the press with a flat blade is genuinely better — more repeatable and more deliberate. Installed in a 16 inch BCM upper on a Spikes lower with H2 buffer. 400 rounds on the first trip without a single issue. Semi is excellent and FRT mode is everything you’ve heard about and more.
Carson –
The flat FRT-15L3 is the exact trigger I needed for my AR. I run flat triggers in some of my handguns and have always wanted one in a rifle. I’m super happy this was my first. Rare Breed has done a great job!
OHayes –
Ran the FRT-15L3 Flat in my Noveske with an H2 buffer. The flat blade immediately felt more natural than the curved triggers I’ve been running for years. Semi is crisp and fast. FRT mode is outstanding. Flat trigger shooters — this is the one you’ve been waiting for.
LM (verified owner) –
Love the trigger! If you get this, you might wanna also get the “Geissele Automatics Super 42 Braided Buffer Spring” and an H2 Buffer to make it work best. Hope this helps.
Chase –
Starting the Summer on a high note with this review. The FRT-15L3 is with the flat trigger show is exactly the trigger I have been looking for. The flat trigger blade is excellent. Semi is smooth with a clean break and FRT mode is pure joy.
Tyler B –
I’ve been running the flat version of the FRT-15L3 in a custom 18″ AR build and the results have been outstanding. The flat shoe is perfect for precision shooting technique and when you want to have fun at the range, FRT mode is right there waiting for you. 2,500 rounds and counting, not one issue. This is the most versatile trigger I have ever put in an AR. Rare Breed earns every bit of their reputation for high quality.
Kevin C (verified owner) –
Absolutely love it, took some tuning with buffer weights to get it running flawlessly but man, once it was tuned, it ran so well I couldn’t really tell the difference between it and my old army rifle. Single shots are a pleasure as well. The trigger is predictable and crisp. Also was surprisingly controllable in FRT mode. I wish I had bought 3 now. lol
Bryce –
Dropped the flat version of the FRT-15L3 into my suppressed 300 Blackout pistol build. Was a bit worried about getting it tuned but it ran perfectly. The flat trigger is a nice touch. It feels more natural to me and the reset is very tactile. Semi mode is crisp and predictable. Already ordered another one for my 9mm AR build. Great product from a company that clearly cares about quality.
Derek H. –
Had the curved FRT-15L3 for the last year and love it. Finally decided to try the flat trigger version to see if it made a difference — it absolutely does for me. The flat shoe gives me a more consistent finger placement and the reset feels even more deliberate. Installed in a 14.5″ CQBR-style build running an H2 buffer and BCM BCG. The quality machining on this trigger is exceptional. Rare Breed keeps raising the bar.
Travis M. –
Finally pulled the trigger on the FRT-15L3 after months of watching YouTube videos and reading forum threads. Installation took maybe 15 minutes in my BCM 16″ mid-length build. Ran 500 rounds through it this past weekend without a single hiccup. Forced reset mode is absolutely addicting. Standard semi is crisp and breaks clean. Upgraded to an H3 buffer before install and it ran perfectly right out of the gate. Do yourself a favor and stop looking at knockoffs. There is one name in FRTs and it is Rare Breed. Already planning a second for one of my SBRs.
Abs (verified owner) –
The FRT-15L3 works absolutely great in my Daniel Defense 9mm PCC. This thing runs smooth, you won’t regret buying.
Frankey B (verified owner) –
This trigger is awesome! I have two and as a matter of fact, I’m ordering another as I write this review. Great trigger!
Chad Mollema (verified owner) –
Butta! Mk18 suppressed with a Hux Ventum. I also have a Law folding stock and thought for sure I was going to have blowback – nope!! Replacing another of my Geissele SD-C’s was a concern, but the FRT-15L3 is a beautiful trigger! Going to try another in a DD5 SBR. Will report back. Great Job RB
David (verified owner) –
Awesome trigger and it’s as advertised. Runs great and the flat trigger with the FRT-15L3 feels good.
Chapo –
Great product! It runs flawlessly! I love my Rare Breed FRT-15L3!
Malcolm G –
Phenomenal performance out the package. Watched a quick video for super easy installation, but did run into the issue where mating at the rear pin was hindered. There is a simple trick you can find to easily close the gun without any cards or tools so that was not a problem.
No specific parts required for my build like h2 or adjustable gas block. Although I may stick an h2 in there later, the rifle has not failed to feed once so far with multiple mags. I want more of these.
Andrew –
I absolutely love this trigger. Your FRT-15L3 is awesome! Offering a version with a flat trigger blade is the cat’s pajamas! This thing runs flawlessly. Thank you!
Chris (verified owner) –
First, don’t waste your money on other brands unless you want headaches. Trust me, I learned. Bought 2 Rare Breed FRTS. The only problem I had (if you call this a problem) is that it ran too fast on an SBR, Suppressed 556 flawlessly. After a few buffer adjustments it now runs perfect. The other is in a SBR, suppressed 300 blackout. Runs great. Great product!!
Michael –
I only regret not having it sooner
Neil Swenson –
The trigger works phenomenally and flawlessly when paired with the proper buffer! I highly recommend this trigger to anybody that has the desire to improve their speed and quick pick up shots!
Alexander –
Great product!
